Date: 24 May 2025 (Sat) Time: 10:00 am – 12:00 noon Venue: Room 1201, 12/F, Fo Tan Industrial Centre, 26-28 Au Pui Wan Street, Fo Tan, N.T. Assembly Time & Place: 9:45 am sharp at G/F., Entrance of Fo Tan Industrial Centre, N.T. Language: Cantonese / English As we step into 立夏 (The Beginning of Summer, 7th solar term)on 5 May 2025, the hot weather is approaching us, and this puts outdoor workers at risk of developing heat exhaustion and in serious cases heatstroke. This safety visit aims to equip safety professionals with effective, technology-enabled strategies to safeguard workers against heat stress and enhance occupational safety. Key topics include: • Wearable devices are gaining popularity in the fields of health monitoring, diagnosis, and drug delivery. For example, you may have come across with a device that measures interstitial fluid glucose levels in people with diabetes; which is an alternative to routine finger-prick blood glucose testing, We will introduce a skin-like wearable microfluidic solution that can non-invasively measure sweat biomarkers, skin temperature health, and physical activity in real time; all of this data provides feedback to the wearer to replenish their sweat loss and alert safety managers. • SOSM, salivary osmolarity, is a method used to assess hydration levels by measuring the concentration of electrolytes and other particles in saliva. Studies suggest that SOSM spot checks provide a more accurate reflection of hydration status in workers and athletes. • OSHA guidelines recommend that workers consume fluids regularly and replace lost electrolytes, especially during prolonged sweating. We will differentiate the difference between an isotonic drink and a hypotonic drink. While isotonic drinks are widely heard of, especially for athletes who train outdoors, hypotonic drinks could be an alternative if workers need rapid hydration without excess carbohydrates. • While there are new anti-heat-stress fabrics and fan-cooled knitwear, phase change material (PCM) garments are designed to help regulate body temperature by using materials that absorb and release heat as they transition between solid and liquid states. These garments are particularly useful for workers in extreme heat environments, athletes, and individuals exposed to high temperatures. • Opportunity for participants to trial these innovative heat-stress and workplace safety solutions and discuss any related questions. Registration: Please contact Ms Stella Wong at admin@hkosha.org.hk or call at 2332 9210 for details.

He has received the Lighthouse Club's Golden Helmet Award and the IOSH Distinguished Service Award. He is also the course director of the new ESG course at the HKMA with government subsidiaries contributing ~80% of the course fee. Abstract of the Safety Seminar The corporate landscape is undergoing a paradigm shift, with environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria becoming a cornerstone of sustainable business practices around the world. Among these, OSH is emerging as a key component, integral to the 'social' dimension of ESG strategies. Embedding OSH practices within ESG frameworks is a strategic approach. A strong OSH record can lead to fewer workplace incidents and reduced absenteeism - factors that are critical to improving productivity, competitive advantage, operational excellence, reducing insurance costs, enhancing brand reputation, and hence better financial performance. Robust OSH standards are also increasingly influencing investment decisions. Investors are showing a preference for companies with exemplary safety records, recognizing that proactive OSH management is indicative of the overall quality of a company's risk management and governance. Safety and health professionals can take advantage of this global ESG trend and expand their influence, be more proactive in developing ESG systems, support value creation and enhance business sustainability. HKEX is also enhancing the ESG requirements and disclosures for all listed companies in HK in line with latest International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) standards: IFRS S1 & S2 in 1/1/2025, which pose a significant challenge for business leaders and professionals. Date: 10 December 2021 (Friday) Time: 8:00 pm–9:00 pm (Webinar link will be provided to access at 7:30 pm) Venue: Online with Zoom Language: Cantonese Speaker: Mr. Tommy Chan Senior Construction Safety Advisor of MTR Corporation Limited Member of Temporary Work Forum Mr. Chan has been working as a safety practitioner in both contractors and client for over 15 years and he is currently working in extension projects of Capital Works Business Unit. He is representing Temporary Works Forum (TWf) to deliver the webinar. TWf promulgates to learn from the lessons and improve the construction practice to avoid tragic incident from happening. It’s objective is a zero-accident construction industry. Abstract : The speaker will share one of TWf’s publications on ‘Lifelines and Anchorage Systems’ while a lot of efforts were spent on training and briefing to promote a safe working practice in fall from height protection, e.g. clip on as the last resort of protection when working at height. These efforts may be made worthless if the anchor point turns out could not save a worker from danger. An anchor point has to be designed, properly installed and tested. This is always the case in the permanent fall protection system using the proper lanyard with shock absorber. What if the lanyard is of the type, which could not minimise the impact in a fall, would this overload the system? The situation may be even worse; when it is a temporary system. Another aspect of fall protection, which was occasionally ignored if not overlooked, is the fall clearance. Insufficient fall clearance would have the worker hit the ground before the fall arrest system is engaged. Is there any alternative other than the lanyard? In this webinar, the speaker will briefly go through • Fall arrest force • Vertical life line and effect of rope knot • Permanent and temporary anchor • Temporary fall arrest and restraint system
